Vibrant, courageous, and full of life is how Gloria Guzman remains in the hearts
of those who knew her well. Raised in the Pilsen area, on 17th St., she attended Cooper Elementary and Middle School, then graduated from Benito Juarez High School in 1991. During her time at UIC, she participated in the education graduate program and graduated in the Spring of 1996, eager to start her own class and confident that she would be an amazing teacher, as that was part of her amazing character. She spoke about her students from Nightingale Elementary with excitement, when she had her first classroom. Her teaching life was cut short,
only 1 month, as she was killed in an accident caused by a drunk driver, late August, 1996. We would like to honor her memory through
The Gloria Guzman Teacher Scholarship Fundraiser and allow her passion for teaching to continue to live in the lives of young aspiring teachers.
Every small donation is greatly appreciated.
